[ what happened ]
Freedom Forever, one of the largest residential solar installers in the United States, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on April 15, 2026. After creditors rejected a proposed sale of the company to its own CEO, Freedom Forever told the Delaware bankruptcy court on July 31, 2026 that it would convert the case to Chapter 7 liquidation. The conversion took effect on August 7, 2026, and a Chapter 7 trustee was appointed to wind down the company’s remaining assets. The court has set September 22, 2026 for the Chapter 7 Meeting of Creditors.
The bankruptcy court granted relief from the automatic stay to several of Freedom Forever’s former financing partners, including GoodLeap, EverBright, EnFin, Sunrun, Credit Human, Participate, and Project Solar, so they could resume and complete stranded installations. Freedom Forever itself is no longer operating as a company, which means there is no installer left to answer service calls, honor workmanship warranties, or finish incomplete projects.

Is my solar system still under warranty?
Your manufacturer's warranty on the panels, inverter, and battery is separate from Freedom Forever and is not affected by the bankruptcy. Freedom Forever's own workmanship warranty on the installation itself is no longer being honored by anyone, since the company stopped operating.
